How recruiters can help you find a job
Understand what recruiters do, what to expect and how to make your first conversation useful.
What does a recruiter do?
A recruiter helps an employer find people for a vacancy. They may review applications, speak with candidates, arrange interviews and discuss an offer. Some specialise in one industry or type of work; others recruit across several areas.
Speaking with a recruiter adds another route to your job search. It does not mean they have a suitable opening today, so keep applying for relevant jobs as well.
Make your first conversation count
Explain the work you have done, the kind of role you want, where you can work and when you can start. Be clear about permanent, temporary or contract work, your preferred hours and your pay expectations.
- Which types of roles do you recruit for?
- Is this conversation about a particular vacancy or future opportunities?
- What information would you need before putting me forward?
- Who would receive my CV, and when should I expect an update?
Keep your search organised
Record the employer, role and date whenever your application is submitted. If another recruiter mentions the same role, explain that you may already have been put forward so they can check before proceeding.
Find your next connection
On TAP, you can browse recruiters, review their profiles and choose who to connect with. Your candidate profile starts private. Read how sharing works before taking the next step.
